Migrating from Clio
Clio is excellent general-purpose legal practice management, but immigration-specific workflows, IRCC integrations, and multi-language client portals are where ImmPilot takes over.
What migrates and what doesn't
Clients, matters, documents, and time entries migrate cleanly. Custom fields migrate to ImmPilot custom fields where possible or to structured notes where not. Task templates re-implement as ImmPilot case templates. Billing history migrates as a read-only ledger.
Exporting from Clio
Use Clio's built-in export to obtain a full data package. For document exports, use the bulk download by matter. Both are available under Reports → Data Export in Clio.
Mapping matters to cases
Each Clio matter maps to a ImmPilot case. During mapping, assign a program to each — this is where ImmPilot's structure begins to add value beyond Clio's generic matter model.
Rebuilding templates
Clio task templates re-implement as ImmPilot case templates. The concept is similar; the syntax differs. Budget 4–8 hours to rebuild the templates you use most often.
Staged cutover
New matters open in ImmPilot from the cutover date. Existing matters close out on Clio, or if they are long-running, migrate individually as they reach the next major stage. Full parallel run typically 60–90 days.
Retiring Clio
Once the last active matter closes in Clio, export a final archive and downgrade to the read-only tier for compliance retention. Cancel the subscription at the end of the annual term.
